Happily lost in the streets of Amsterdam

London & Travel, Random

P1110498Spend the weekend in Amsterdam was lovely. My mom is Dutch, then be back in the Netherlands after a long time has been for me an emotional return to a culture that is part of me. Wander through the beautiful streets of Amsterdam is something wonderful, the city is so picturesque and pleasant.

The canals, all the bicycles, the houses with crooked walls. Vibes of a typical Nordic peace and simplicity are in the air, mixed once in a while with smell of weed coming from the numerous coffee shops and the neon lights of the Red Light District. Although Amsterdam is pretty small, it knows how to amaze you all the time. Go for a walk or take a bicycle and get lost around this little magic wonder, starting from Dam Square – very centre – until the young area Rembrandtplein, the beautigul park Vondelpark or to the shopping area Nine Streets. Amsterdam is a very good place even for art and culture, and The Rijksmuseum, the Van Gogh Museum and the Anne Frank House are definitely three of the main points of interest. Amsterdam is surpising also when it comes to culinary art, since the traditional cuisine may not is the most envied in the world but the city has many niches where to have a great meal, enjoying simplicity and high quality. Our favorite spot of this weekend has been Vlaamsch Broodhuys, a lovely bake that offers natural food beautifully prepared mainly on special breads. If you are in the mood for something good and healthy while in Asmterdam, keep it in mind! It’s in Eerste Constantijn Huygensstraat 64.

Curiosity: in the Netherlands yesterday began the feast of Sinterklaas, which leads to children sweets and gifts together with his numerous and fun Zwarte Piets! Yesterday in Amsterdam they made a parade to celebrate the arrival of Sinterklaas in town, that we obviosly have not missed out .. it’s always nice to be kids again for a while, and even more if surronded by sweets! ;)
